A comment from Ray

Your newsletter is getting to be more of a commercial, like on TV, than it use to be. .It use to be a lot more informing. Just thought I would let you know what a lot of people are thinking………Thanks

Our monthly expenses for five dedicated Web servers and other business expenses. do not go down over time — they go up — just like most people’s living expenses. We’re struggling financially now, but we hardly think our newsletter is one big commercial. As pointed out above, there is a wealth of information in every issue of newsletters.

We’re sorry you feel as you do. Let’s see how many agree with you.

    Ray…
Speak for yourself! Perhaps you ought to have read the blog responses to the article on “the future of cloudeight.” It would definitely would have punched a huge hole in your claim of “…what a lot of people are thinking.” Please refrain from the use of such fabrication. You have documented opinions from other Cloudeight customers? If you can vault such a claim, then perhaps you can provide us with your URL where you serve the needs of a “growing” community of users, in a multitude of areas and, oh yes, add free. I for one, appreciate the efforts of T.C. & E.B. in producing true value in their publication. You won’t find thier dedication to serving their subscibers and providng TRUTH, anywhere else. If you find their publication unpalitable…exercise your obvious option.

T.C. & E.B., keep on, keeping on. Your service and deication to all of us, is invaluable. Bar none! Nuff said.

Ray, everybody has the right to their opinion, but should also have the right to defend it. I’m wondering just what you think is making this “newsletter get to be more of a commercial”? Please be specific.

First off, I don’t agree with you even a teeny-tiny bit.
And personally, I think it’s arrogant to try to justify YOUR opinion by claiming to speak for “a lot of people”. How many readers of this newsletter did you poll? I, for one, “didn’t get the memo”. If you’d like to conduct one, there’s a spot to do that in the “NotOverTheHill forum. I think you might enjoy being a member there so you can get immediate responses to your personal observations of this newsletter or any other subject you might enjoy or get benefit from. There’s a really good chance you are “alone” on the particular issue you’ve raised here…maybe not. You won’t know ’til you post a poll.

TC and EB Keep on, keepin on. You’re doing just fine.

Ray, there’s always someone like you who likes to take the liberty of speaking for everyone using their own opinion as the be all and end all. Please don’t speak on my behalf because I, like the majority of members using NOTH’s as far as I can detect, just don’t agree with you.

Ray, I have been a subscriber and/or reader to this newsletter since they began and they do NOT have ‘commercials’. The infomercials are only to help them financially bring you, I and thousands of others this FREE newsletter. I depend on TC and EB’s newsletter because I feel that they are the only ones who will tell us the truth regarding a product. So, before you put your foot in your mouth again why don’t you check out some other newsletters, the digital goddess is one that comes to mind and compare them. Keep up the great work TC and EB you are loved and respected by far more than you know. Oh, one more thought as I am ‘rambling’ I love the humor and the essays and the ramblings and as Holly said “Don’t change a thing!”. May 2013 be kind to your endeavors.

It is a fact of life commercials pay for free stuff . I am thankful they have not resorted to what every one else is doing and that is letting you pay the price with spy ware and the such with bundling . I have used the service almost from the beginning it is why I can say I have a clean computer now . These two people have kept so many safe we should all be donating and often. You will not find as honest a news letter as this one so load us down with commercials we do not have to click on them but maybe we should at least click and look at what is being advertised . As soon as my check comes in I will donate and if everyone did that just maybe these two could afford a vacation now and again . If you go for the so called free stuff you can come here and get it fixed for a reasonable price, or you can get involved with dishonest people and wind up losing more than you care to.

You most certainly did not speak for me and I do not think you speak for anyone else in TC & EB’s following. If we had more people like them and more newsletters like the one they publish, the internet would be a much safer place. You have a choice you know, you are not forced into reading the newsletter. Common sense should tell Ray than NO business can operate without an income. I go to work expecting to be paid. When you operate a web newsletter/magazine, AND if you get the free version, how do you think they are going to be able to keep devoting time to something that they are not getting a return from? The ads help pay for the service, and, the awesome advice and tips people get from this newsletter. Do you expect to do work and not get paid? If that is the case, you must be better off then most of us! So why don’t you open your wallet and donate some of those dollars to Cloudeight InfoAve today, or at least say a BIG humbling “Thank You” for all the help they give us to help keep our computers running smoothly throughout the week! There is NO free lunch….

I sure would like him to back up his claims and I bet he CAN’T for I have been with Cloud Eight for many years and I, like so many others, have nothing but praise for TC and EB and the wonderful job they are doing, I have a folder which I have accumulated over time and in every issue or on those informative CD’S (the electronic books) there are loads of information which we have really learned a lot of things from. You do not speak for me or 99.9% of the thousands of people who have been benefiting over all these years from the wonderful information learned on this site. Maybe you’d feel a lot better if you gave a few bucks to these wonderful people to ease their financial burden. Have you been to other sites that have misleading links and advertisements galore? I personally have never had enough money ahead to enjoy the use of Cloudeight Computer Care or many other things I would love to have advantage of but one thing I do know, TC and Darcy still want me to have the full benefit of their advice and tips as anyone else gets. I just wish I were rich, I would happily back Cloudeight and expect nothing in return. I bought the Smileycons, Infornation Avenue Premium all the Ebooks and donated a few pennies a couple of times but it not enough for all they have done for me and many others like me and the greatest thing of all is they treat me with the same respect and friendship as anyone. I could not find better information or service anywhere. So I am so very happy I am still able to speak for myself, God help me if you had to do it. I am however sorry that you feel the way you do.
TC and Darcy, thank you with all my heart for your unending help, information and advice. I hope and pray that in spite of ones like myself who can not give more, that God will richly bless you and your company profits and health in 2013. You deserve so much more than you get.

I can’t see what the fuss is about. You have to pay for newspapers and magazines, and still get besieged by adverts. You can choose to read them or ignore them. When the adverts appear on TV you can either sit and watch or go out and mow the lawn, or bath the dog – these days you’d probably have time to do both. When I was young(er) “trolling” meant one of two things to my generation. 1) it’s what we were doing while idly riding around in our cars (4 or more inside) looking for cute guys/gals to playfully harrass or strike up a conversation with. (Wanna go “trolling” for awhile?)
(I had a beat-up convertible…but it shined while it “rattled and rolled”.)
        2) Trolling is also what we did when my dad took us fishing. We had our fishing lines dragging in the water while we kept our boat continuously moving slowly forward (trolling for fish to bite)

I have to agree with Ray. I’ve been with CloudEight nearly from the start, and it went from asking people for just one dollar to keep CloudEight from “going under,” up until now.

Just for the heck of it I removed all the ads, commercials, ringing their own bell, etc., from their premium news letters. There wasn’t much left to it. Every C8 Website is plastered with ads. I get four other newsletters similar to C8, and C8 has more ads than the other four newsletters combined. The products they sell keeps them floating.

I also get the Cloudeight Info Ave, and it’s just a repeat of the premium one, the C8 start page I use, plus a ton of ads. How convenient is that?

Just recently CloudEight bragged about fixing thousands of computers by remote access, and yet they are near to going under and asking for more money again in the name of a donation. Perhaps a financial advisor would be an asset to CloudEight?

About two weeks before Christmas I suggested to C8 to offer a gift to their customers that have been giving to them for years. A gift is not a $10 off sale. A gift is free. I suggested a choice of one of four premium screen savers. What a wonderful PR that would have been, and in reality it would have cost them little, if anything.

Saying they offer free stationary only goes so far. Most of the people I write to can’t even accept C8 stationary, which is top-notch, top of the line stationary. Beautiful stuff! I write to hundreds of people from all over this planet. I end up using stationary that I’ve made myself, or downloaded from someone else.

Guess what. I didn’t even hear back from them, let alone any real gifts for anyone.

I am not saying any of this with any malice. It’s just how I feel about it. It’s something that has been bothering me for awhile now, but not enough that I’m going to do anything different. Whether I take advantage of the ads or not is entirely up to me. I will still use C8 as my home page on Google Chrome.

Hi and thanks for your feedback. I would be intersted to know what newsletters you get that have this much info and no ads?

On stationery, we still have severalt thousand visitors and downloads a day, so apparently many still use, share and enjoy. While we have google ads on our site, we do not allow any kind of popups or popunders. If you are not sure what these are, try visiting some of the many “free” sites like cnn.com, weather.com etc. And, not sure if you realize it, but it takes several million views to see any income from ads; it does supplement site income some and is a needed resource.

Finally, we get thousands of mails a month and many, like yours, came as a “comment or suggestion” not a question, and we simply cannot answer each and every one of them. But, I do read each and every one of them. Your idea was actually used – since we already offer one of our premium savers free (and smileycon gold memmbers get all ten free), instead at Christmas we offered CalendarPal, FolderMagic and Smileycons for free all week to our Premium susbcribers; there were hundreds of downloads.

I understand you are not saying with any malice, so please don’t take my answer that way; I don’t mean it in a bad way.

InfoAve free is a condensed version of Premium; this is why we ask Premium members to unsubscribe from free edition. It costs thousands to maintain an email list, so unsubbing from a duplicate type of newsletter helps us too 🙂

Thanks for being a member for many years, and we hope you will continue to use, share and enjoy.

Only one to agree with Ray? Let me throw my two cents in as well, then.
I agree with Matthew, above, who mentions other newsletters that stay afloat with fewer ads.

I do not begrudge C8 from making a living off advertising – they gotta make their money somehow. I can even deal with the amount of advertising presented – I ignore it.
I do take issue with the way it is presented, though. Much of the advertising is presented in a way that makes it look like another article by the authors. Sometimes it even is! It’s one thing to endorse the products you advertise, but shoe-horning them into articles is almost as shameful as all these software distributors you are always pointing fingers at for bundling software with their own products. Seriously? IT’S NO DIFFERENT!

The problem with bundling software is it is often done in a sneaky fashion (like writing an ad that looks like an article). I have no issue with software bundled honestly, where the installation screens give the option to add the other software.
And I have no issue with ads presented as ads. But man, you got a lot!

As Matthew says, it’s not enough to make me change my ways, but you asked for a response to what Ray said, and after skimming over the other comments, I felt I better get in there before poor old Ray gets lynched!

I have just read all of the above and then read a couple of the latest Info Ave Premium newsletters. I was trying to find all the ads and commercials that Ray and Matthew have been talking about and I couldn’t find them.
I did find helpful information about several excellent products and services provided by two wonderful people for a small cost!!
Darcy and TC have been helping thousands of people all over the world with their computers for many years. They are also trying to earn a living and deserve all the help we can give them. May they continue their excellent work for many years to come.
P.S. Do hope Ray bothers to come back and read all these comments, it may show how we really feel!!

Ray-fus & Matt-fus…. Don’t speak for me, Sirs. I do my own speaking! I am constantly clicking off ads that pop up all over the page at every ‘reading’ site I hop on. If you don’t like the ‘food’ I’m sure there’s another shop down the street which might serve your needs to suit ya. Be grateful this one is FREE! I’ve learned more here than any place and I, for one, find what ever they sell is of good quality and I am grateful they clue us in on it. So ya’ll might try some link/site where ya have to click and click and click off their ads that are constantly popping up!

It is a shame how one negative response from a member can kick me down; I will admit it. And, I know I should probably just ignore a comment like that, but being the people pleaser I am, I try to make every single member happy and sometimes I need to accept defeat and see that I can only make 99.9% happy. Wait.. 99.9? Ok. I can live with that 🙂

I understand where Ray is coming from, in his observation that InfoAve Premium has become ‘more of a commercial, like on TV, than it use to be. .It use to be a lot more informing. Just thought I would let you know what a lot of people are thinking….Thanks.”

That being said, I would like to point out that an issue of InfoAve Premium in 2003 contained about twelve articles, while a current issue of the same newsletter contains about twenty-six articles.
Times change, money’s tighter. In 2003, you could purchase a gallon of gasoline for $1.65. In 2013, you will more than likely pay closer to $3.20 per gallon.
The gallon is the same size now as it was in 2003, not larger.

It is true that there is some advertising included in the newsletter, but it’s good reliable advertising with programs that are beneficial to you the reader, not just to the revenue it would generate. We are willing to support hundreds of TV programs that have an increasing amount of advertising and half as much content, so why would we criticize a helpful newsletter?

Back in 2003, there certainly wasn’t a reliable service available like Computer Care, and NO ONE can dispute that this service could not be duplicated by anyone else, for even TWICE the price.

As many of our readers have already pointed out, they have had their computers in the shop for repairs, and when they got them back, there were all kinds of ‘extra programs’ there that had already been downloaded by the service person, or the programs were left ready to be downloaded by the customer (on the repair person’s recommendation, of course).

Where else would you find a site/newsletter that offered all the programs you need to keep your computer safe and running well, FOR FREE?

It’s true that there are links to extra programs that you could purchase, but the links offered, give you a safe download site where you aren’t tricked into adding something you didn’t want.
We all have different interests, so in order to appeal to everyone, there are a wide variety of programs offered.

We, as Infoave Premium readers, are given up to date, concise, easy to read/understand information about the computer world.
No other newsletter would hold our hand and guide us through the transition from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95, then Windows 98, Windows Me , Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and now Windows 8.
They even provide us with answers to our questions about older programs like Windows XP, from which they are gently trying to wean us.

There has been a great improvement, over the years, in the presentation of the newsletter. The current view is nicely laid out, organized and easy to read. It’s an excellent reference source, and even if they haven’t covered an issue that concerns you about computers, they will try to give you an answer you can understand, when you inquire.

The newsletter is definitely longer than it was, but the same good content is still there. If you reach a portion of the newsletter that doesn’t interest you, the scroll button is very easy to use.

Yes, there are accolades included about how much we appreciate their work, but who doesn’t like to hear that their efforts are appreciated?

In this world of short forms and ‘code speak’, it’s easy to fall into the habit of speaking in haste and generalities. Unfortunately, when something is said in any form of media, it is out there for all time.

Constructive criticism is good, but criticism for the sake of ‘having a word’ is cruel and demoralizing.
Let’s be more charitable and constructive in the future.

TC and Darcy, keep up the good work. We really do value and appreciate your newsletters.

All this has become is a dogpile.Someone mentioned a troll.Stop and think about it,who would benefit better from trolling than someone trying to see what the concensus would be IF Cloudeight started advertising.Sometimes I really wonder if a lot of these replies, statements are nothing more than “sock puppetry”.Sorry to say folks, that not all is as it may seem at times. This is my take, and your mileage may vary.Ray(if he’s even real) had his say,his belief. He stated what he thought was true to him,he didn’t descend into name calling or insulting others intelligence or what their turkeys were stuffed with. All I have seen is a lot of intolerant people answer.Just trying to level the playing field.Myself personally,I wouldn’t have even given this a go as the “editor”.I still (my opinion, and yes I’m entitled)believe this is/was a fishing expedition….Now you may dogpile on me.Hopefully some of you may pause for reflection.

I thought I’d had a pretty good week what with the great summer weather ‘down under’ here in New Zealand, and then ran across Rae’s tirade on Sunday about what????? Have we been reading the same newsletters? Commercials?? Where are they? I’ve read and re-read his comments and have come to one conclusion. He’s got a problem, and it certainly hasn’t anything to do with CloudEight’s newsletters. I also note his one supporter (Matthew), and quite frankly I cannot figure out what his gripe is either. Is the moon in a strange position or something? While we know that it’s tough to put your heart and soul into projects year after year and get rubbish feedback like this, the simple fact is that you can’t please everyone all the time. There’ll be the odd winger and misrepresenter such as we have here, and that’s upsetting to say the least. I haven’t read other responses to this, but I do know Cloudeight cannot provide all they do for free. Ads help pay for this as well as I suppose some small remuneration they receive for some of the software bought through C8 ads.
I am totally okay with the ads, and C8 is certainly entitled to them–and I am glad they get that finacial help. Me, I read many of the ads, try out some of them, but am always educated a little more just by reading about them.
