Special characters made easy

By | September 14, 2012

EB says I’m a character, but not a special one. I think she’s wrong. I’m a special character, but I’m not the kind of special character we’re going to be talking about here.

How do you spell elan or cliche? You spell them élan and cliché that’s how! But how do you get those funny things on the e’s señor? Do you like my Spanish n? Wait til you taste my Spanish rice!

We’ve ferreted out a really nifty freeware program that makes making special characters a snap! No more memorizing alt key + number pad combinations. No more opening Windows character map and hunting around.

All those lovely things were made in seconds using a freeware program called Holdkey — yes soirée 🙂 Ƀobbý — it’s great and fast and so easy to use, even EB cat “Vlad the Impaler” could use it.

As we are people of our word, we promise you that this program as of today 9/13/2012, contains no harmful add-ons or bundles. It’s truly free and it will be truly a boon to those of you who oft need to use special characters in your writing, posts, or emails. Or if you just want to impress people like EB and use the word schädënfrëudë and spell it correctly — like the Germans do. I’m not German so I’m not so sure those e’s are right — but they’re impressive! Hey! And so is that A!

So hey, hey, what do you say, how about using some special characters today. Where’s your élan Ellen? Where’s your fortè Frank?

Special characters made easy – and fun with Holdkey — available free from http://holdkey.eu .

Holdkey works in Windows XP through Windows 8 — on 32bit and 64bit Windows systems.

I love your comments about EB and yourself. I would like to take the liberty and correct your “schädënfrëudë”, it is “Schadenfreude” without all those dots on the a and e. But you tried and that is a good thing. Keep up your great work, you guys really rock. I learned a lot in the past years from you…. so keep it coming and Thank you.
