The Ctrl+Shift+V Shortcut Can Save You Time

Copy & paste is one of the most frequently used features of computing. It works in all operating systems including Windows, Mac, Android, IoS, and Linux. In Windows, we use the shortcut Ctrl+c to copy and Ctrl+v to paste.

The Ctrl+Shift+v shortcut

Here’s a simple and easy trick that I’d forgotten. It works great and is very useful if you copy things from the web and paste them into emails or social media posts to share with others. And it works with any version of Windows.

Below are two samples I randomly copied from an article that appeared on the TechRadar website on May 19, 2023.

For  “Example #1”,  I copied part of a TechRadar article and pasted it here using the  Ctrl+v shortcut to paste it into this post.

For “Example #2”, I copied the same part of the article and pasted it here using the Ctrl+Shift+v shortcut.

Microsoft has just made a pretty remarkable admission, essentially conceding that it doesn’t have a solution for some Windows 11 problems.

As Neowin reports, some people using Windows 11 and Windows 10 have found a bug which prevents the Start menu, Windows search bar and some Universal Windows Platform (UWP) apps from starting or working correctly.

Use the Ctrl+Shift+v shortcut when you want to remove the text formatting and paste plain text only

If you’re sharing an article by email, on a social media site, or want to paste, unformatted plain text into a Word document or text editor, try using the Ctrl+Shift+v shortcut whenpaste it into an email, social media post, document, or text file.

It works in Microsoft Office, Notepad, WordPad, Gmail, Hotmail / Outlook.com email, and many other programs. It does not work in OE Classic and it may not work in your email client. But it works most of the time, in most programs. Try it and see!

Hmmm… I use Windows Live Mail, and Ctrl/Shift/v doesn’t work for me on Windows 10 Pro.
    Ctrl/v works and C/S/v doesn’t add anything.

We said it does not work in all programs. More importantly… Windows Live Mail has not been supported by Microsoft since 2016 and the last version update was in 2012. You’re taking significant risks using an unsupported email client directly connected to the Internet.
