uBlock Origin Lite – An Excellent Adblocker That Works with Google Chrome

Late this summer, uBlock Origin announced that due to changes in the Google Chrome browser, its flagship ad blocker (and our #1 recommendation) would no longer work with Chrome. At that time we started looking for an alternative to uBlock Origin and in September 2024, we announced our recommendation for AdGuard AdBlocker (MV3 Beta).

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been testing uBlock Origin Lite, which works with Google Chrome. After testing, we’re now recommending it for most of you. Its adblocking is as robust as the uBlock Origin that we’ve been recommending for years. For the average user who wants a good ad blocker, we think you’ll find that uBlock Origin Lite does everything you need it to do.

If you’re an advanced user who needs many customizable options, uBlock Origin Lite will most likely not suit you well.

Compared to uBlock Origin, uBlock Origin Lite, has limited customization options, fewer filtering options, and cannot import custom filter lists.

Our conclusion

If you’re not an advanced user and/or don’t need a lot of customization options, and you’re looking for a free, reliable, efficient, and privacy-focused ad blocker, uBlock Origin Lite is an excellent choice. Its combination of simplicity, performance, and security makes it a great option for the average internet user. By installing uBlock Origin Lite, you can take control of your online experience, eliminate almost all ads, and protect yourself from potential threats.

If you are using Google Chrome and you don’t need a lot of customizable options, uBlock Origin Lite is an excellent, easy-to-use, free adblocker we recommend.

A couple more things…

You can use uBlock Origin Lite right out of the box, but we recommend after you install you change the settings under “Default filtering mode” from “Basic” to “Complete”

Also, if you’re using AdGuard AdBlocker (MV3 Beta) and you like it, keep using it, we’re still recommending it as well.
