What is the Windows Key

A number of you wrote to us after a tip we published that required you to press the Windows Key plus the “R” key to open a Run Command. You wanted to know what the Windows Key was. Sometimes we forget that many users really don’t know what the Windows Key is or where it is. And when we remember that we remember back to the days when we were first starting to learn computers and used to get zip files and have no idea what to do with them.

So if you’re one of those who wrote – the Windows Key is the key with the Windows logo on it – usually located between the Ctrl and Alt keys, to the left of the space bar. If you have a very old computer – say 10 to 12 years old – it may not have a Window Key. If your computer is newer than that, you have a Windows Key.

Never be afraid to ask a question because you don’t want to look foolish. The only foolish thing to do is not to ask the question. Asking questions is an important part of learning – so never shy away from asking about something you don’t understand. Even if it’s something as simple as the Windows key.

So if you didn’t know before, you now know what the Windows key is and where it is.
