What is Windows “God” Mode?

By | July 13, 2011

God modes have been around for quite awhile. They’re nothing new, but because they’ve been written about so much in blogs and in tech newsletters, they’re becoming quite popular – in fact, some bloggers make them sound brand new. The god mode feature is not new. It’s present in Windows 7 and it was present in Windows Vista also. God mode in Vista and 7 is nothing more than all control panel applets in a single window.

Whether you’re using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you can add god mode to your PC or laptop by creating a folder and naming it:

This trick/tip cannot possibly cause you to have a blank screen. Run System Restore. Safe Mode/Without networking – does not even load the Windows UI. Go to Safe Mode – Command Prompt without networking. At the prompt type RSTRUI.exe and press enter.

There is no way that creating a folder would cause this kind of problem. God Mode is a name – it’s not a god. It’s just a folder, like any other folder. If creating a folder causes this kind of error on your PC, you have some big problems going there.

If you couldn’t see the screen you wouldn’t have been able to login to safe mode anyway.

It’s a folder, like any other folder. It has nothing to do with 64-bit or 32-bit. It’s a folder – despite the omnipotent name, it’s a folder 🙂

It’s easy. Copy the code TC typed above God Mode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} Make a new folder on your desktop, now paste the code where you give the folder a name. When you click on the folder it will open and show all the applets.

I found out that Gods Mode will not work on vista 64 bit. I was able to go into the registry and find the key for Gods Mode and delete it. This took care of my problem and explorer quit crashing on my computer.

It’s a folder – like any other folder. It’s not magic. You can make a folder of Control Panel, etc. It’s just a folder.

I don’t understand what all the “hoop-la” is about with God mode. Of course my version of Windows is the old XP and I’m very happy with it & my control panel as is. Even if I updated my Windows, I can’t see why God mode would be beneficial to me!
