Enjoy Virtual Desktops In Windows 7 and Windows 8.x
One of Windows 10’s new features is one that almost everyone likes and almost everyone can use. It’s called Virtual Desktops. You can switch between desktops just by clicking a taskbar icon. Why is this so good?
Well, let’s say you have a document you’re working on and you decide you want to open a graphics editor to work on some graphics. Well you could open a graphics editor on the desktop – and you can split the screen with your document on one side (or top) and one on the other side (or bottom) and this is OK, because it works. But lets say you also want to check your email and pay some bills online too. Now you’re talking clutter and if you’re old and feeble like us we’re talking forgetting all the stuff we have open.
So Windows 10 allows you to create multiple desktops and switch between them simply by clicking a desktop icon. What is that EB? You don’t have Windows 10 tech preview, but you want virtual desktops? You’re in luck, my friend. There’s a little tiny program you can download from SysInternals (a Microsoft site) that allows you to easily create and switch between four desktops with a keyboard shortcut or by clicking an icon in your system tray.
The program that makes it a snap to create and use virtual desktops in Windows 7 and Windows 8.x without waiting for Windows 10 to be released is called Desktop v2.0. It’s a 68KB (Yes! EB … that’s KILOBYTES) zip file that you simply unzip and click the executable to run the program – so you don’t even have to install it so nothing is changed in your precious registry.)
Well here is a screenshot for you (it’s pretty cool!)
Would you lookie there! Amazing! Right EB? Oh you want to know more about it? OK we’ll let Mark and Bryce tell you more.
Desktops v2.0
By Mark Russinovich and Bryce CogswellIntroduction
Desktops allows you to organize your applications on up to four virtual desktops. Read email on one, browse the web on the second, and do work in your productivity software on the third, without the clutter of the windows you’re not using. After you configure hotkeys for switching desktops, you can create and switch desktops either by clicking on the tray icon to open a desktop preview and switching window, or by using the hotkeys.
