Windows 10 – Free Upgrade Offer
Microsoft recently made it official – Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users will get a free upgrade to Windows 10 – if they upgrade in the first year.
No official release date has been set for Windows 10, but rumor has it, Windows 10 will be released to manufacturing (RTM) in June. This means that computer manufacturers can start installing Windows 10 on new computers. That’s the rumor – nothing official from Microsoft yet. TC & EB, i am a bit confused! The very first part of article clearly states Windows 7 licensed users will be eligible for the Windows 10 upgrade.., and the second part of the article clearly states that windows 8 & 8.1 licensed users will be eligible to upgrade. Could you please clarify as to whither windows 7 users will be included. Thank you both for
[all] and the FYI on windows 10.
When you sign up for the newsletter the welcome letter states Windows 7 SP1 users are included. I’ve now posted that part from the welcome letter on this post.
I have a windows smart phone. I wonder if that will be upgraded as well?
Only if it’s running Windows 8.1
I just clicked on the first link you provided for Microsoft: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/about?OCID=newsletter_r_Feb_Hero_Win10LearnMore
and in the very first paragraph it discloses that windows 7 users are included! Hum!
Hereinafter is what Microsoft says after you have signed up: Great news! We will offer a free upgrade to Windows 10 for qualified new or existing Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 devices that upgrade in the first year!* And even better: once a qualified Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it up to date for the supported lifetime of the device, keeping it more secure, and introducing new features and functionality over time – for no additional charge. I was remiss in not posting the info from the welcome letter on this post. I have added it at the bottom.
At last, a few brownie points to Microsoft. Maybe not quite as money hungry as first thought
I’ve just read the info for getting the Windows 10 newsletter. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the way it reads to me, is that they will have access to everything on your computer. This includes contacts, email addresses and automatic
access to your accounts. If you click on the No button, it tells you that “something else has been detected. Not connected.” Basically, you can’t get on the Windows 10 newsletter unless you choose Yes.
I don’t believe that’s true. I hardly think Microsoft would be so foolish as to collect email passwords or have any interest in your personal things. If you own a Chromebook or Android device almost every app displays a similar warning that “this app can access…yada yada yada”. How much in terms of a public relations fiasco do you think it would be – and how many billions of dollars would it cost – if Microsoft got caught with its hands in your cookie jar.
It’s kind of like going and getting a prescription filled for the first time, and when you get home you find that your bottle of pills came with a multi-page insert. And if you read that insert most of them list dozens of horrible side effects and almost all of them say that in some cases the medicine may cause death. You’d never take your medicine if you actually thought any of those things were going to happen to you.
My PC came with Windows 7 installed; how do I find out if my version is qualified for upgrade and having said that, will I have to go to a touch screen to use the new version?
My question is……..I am finally getting used to W8.1……….will the learning curve be as great from 8.1 to 10 as it was from XP to W8??? I’m too old to go through that again!!!!!!! Any word on the advantages to the upgrade or is it just for people who think they need the latest?? I’m a pretty casual user and just want something that does what I want to do, online and off. One of the things I’m concerned about is the fact that I finally found an affordable version of Word Perfect that will work with my W8.1……..what if it doesn’t work with 10?? (I can’t afford hundreds of dollars for a program I just use for personal things. I’ve tried Office, etc. and don’t like it as well as WP)
Would like your opinion. Thanks in advance.
Good Morning I have a desktop that runs windows 8 and then a laptop that runs windows 7. So my question is this will Microsoft let me get both computers upgraded free? Thank you for you time and help with this question.
Have a blessed day

Thank you so much for your input and help with my question. It’s what I’ve begun to expect.
I reserved windows 10 when it was offered. I am now using windows 7 Premium on my Dell PC. I noticed that Microsoft attempted to install Windows 10- 4 times in the last few days and all attempts show failed. Any advice as to what is happening? Sharon Halverson
Windows 10 does not install automatically unless you click OK to install or scheduled it to install. My guess is that your computer doesn’t allow the network adapter to work when your computer is in sleep mode…hence when you computer sleeps you have no network access and you can’t download the files. Workaround…download the download tool from Microsoft and create an installation USB using the tool (you’ll need a 4GB or larger flash drive). You can learn more about this here.
