It came to our attention this week that many people still send large attachments via email. That can be a problem. Most ISPs have a limit on the size of attachments you can send. Web mail providers (Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, etc.) have limits too.
Since the majority of folks now have high-speed Internet access – it’s tempting to send a 40 or 50MB file via email. But many times this will end up with your mail either getting rejected by the recipient domain — or rejected by your ISP. And Gmail does not allow you to send executables – exes – not even inside zipped files.
There are better ways to send large files. We found a service a few days ago (and tested it) that allows you to share files with whomever you want with a bare minimum of hassle. It’s called Tinyupload. And despite its diminutive name – it allows you to upload and share files, as many as you want – up to 50MB each.
It’s as easy as 1-2-3.
1. Go to http://tinyupload.com
2. Select the file you want to upload
3. Click the upload button
After your file has been uploaded — you’ll get a link to the file you uploaded. You can send that link to anyone you like – as many people – as often as you like – and they can download the file from that link. There are no restrictions on how many files you can upload or how many people you can share them with. It’s easy.
So you don’t need no stinkin’ attachments or ISP rules or restrictions. Share your large files the easy way.
Visit www.tinyupload.com right now and share what you like.
Whoohoo! This is very helpful, and thanks for the tip. I often take many pictures at birthday or holiday family get-togethers. Then end up burning a CD of all the pics for each family (8-10), as no way 100 or so pics are going thru email. This site will save me the hassle of making CDs, and will get the pictures to family members more quickly as well. A real time-saver for me!
This “Tiny Uploads” web site is a great way to send
large files !! Thanks for testing it out, and then posting it on the InfoAve tips.
However, I tried to establish a “Tiny Uploads” link for two different types of files: one was a WMV file and another was a PDF file, and both were under the 50 MB size limit. The PDF file was successfully uploaded; however, the WMV file never uploaded successfully. I don’t think I did anything wrong with the WMV. I just think you can’t upload video files to establish a link on the “Tiny Upload” server.
