Automatically Track Data Usage in Windows 10

Most smartphones and tablets have had this feature, but it deserves mentioning it here that PC and laptop users with Windows 10 can easily check their data usage any time – and even get the down and dirty details of what is using up the data. Now most of us with laptops and PCs use broadband connections (Cable, FiOS, DSL, Satellite) which are, for the most part, (in the USA) come with unlimited data. However some of you use 4G or 3G wireless connections with you laptop or desktop – at least some of the time, and most of these are not unlimited. And some of you just might find it interesting to know how much data you’re using.

So if you’re using Windows 10, this what you do.

Start —> Settings —>Network & Internet —->Data Usage

If you do all that, you see this:

I’ve highlighted my data usage in green. All of my data usage was via my Wi-Fi connection. I don’t like wires!

If I click on Usage detail, I see this:

Oddly I only used Outlook for a day or two before I, once again, decided I really didn’t like it — STILL didn’t like it, and heaven knows I’ve tried to like to for a long time. So I’m back using Windows Mail in Windows 10 and surprisingly it runs better on Windows 10 than it runs on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. Is this a hint from Microsoft that they’re about to bring Windows Mail/Outlook Express back? Probably not, however it is odd that it works better in Windows 10 than it worked in Windows 7 or Windows 8x. If you’re interested in using Windows Mail on Windows 10 visit this page.

So now you know how to check you data usage on Windows 10 no mater what kind of device you are using.

    My sister and I live in different states and send emails daily to each other. She told me how Darcy set up Windows Mail on her Windows 7 machine. So I got Darcy to do the same on my new Windows 10 laptop and I love it. I had mentioned to my sister that I was thinking about getting the 3 Direct Computer Repair Keys since it was such a GREAT DEAL. A day later I got an email from my sister saying she got them for me. What a wonderful gift. I really have a super duper sister!

    I checked. Mine says 0 used past 30 days under Ethernet. My computer is hard wired to a router. Also I have Roku and phones, and blue-ray that connects through my router. Don’t know if those would show up. Probably not.

    Thanks for the tip.
