I updated my PC manually with the Fall Creators Update and everything is working well. I like it just fine and I just like to keep everything up to date when it comes to releases.
I agree with Robert F. 100%.

You had to make this comment from the Poll page. If you’re not seeing the Poll – perhaps you have Flash turned off? The poll uses flash.
I couldn’t find anything to click on to vote in the poll.
In our InfoAve Daily the headline is the link to the article – in this case the poll. Additionally, you can just go to our InfoAve Home Page. I’m not understanding though how you’re making this comment without seeing the poll?
I updated my PC manually and it failed to pick up my video card. Had to go to video card home to download drivers. After that everything seems to work OK..
My laptop I used daily received the update automatically on 10-19. when I found no difficulties with the update I manually installed the update on my other laptop so they would be in sync with each other. All most two weeks later and I have had no problems at all.
I agree with Robert F. 100%. When in Spain, do what the Spain’s do!
How will I know if I received the update?
Follow the instructions on this page, Alice.
My computer has stopped and then rebooted 3 times since the update was installed. I don’t know if it was a flaw in the update or if it’s my computer. It’s coming up 2 years old in Feb.
You can roll back to your previous version of Windows 10 without losing data, programs or settings – as long as you do it within 10 days of the update. See this page to learn how.
I don’t know if it’s installed. How can I check?
Hi Anita, we made a tip for you… see it here.
thank you
This Fall update came in on me. I really wanted to wait and was going to update it myself, but here is what I really don’t like. Some people might though. I was like this person below, I did not hear about this changing either. To me this is a big change. I could not believe it when I first found it.
This came from Spiceworks.com. by uberchemist on Oct 19, 2017.
It looks like the latest version of Windows 10 (v. 1709) has taken away some functionality from the Control Panel. Now, when I try to set default programs from Control Panel, I get the Windows 10 “settings app” UI instead. I tried using it, but found it lacks some of the functionality it used to have, such as selecting a program and applying all file defaults to it. It looks like I can now only do it one file type at a time. For example, if I want VLC Media Player to be the default app for ALL possible media files that it supports, I used to be able to select the VLC program via “Set Default Programs” in Control Panel and hit “Set this program as default (Use the selected program to open all file types and protocols it can open by default.)”
Does anybody know if the original functionality is hiding somewhere, or is it totally gone? I didn’t see this mentioned in any of MS’s deprecated features notes.
I’m like this guy I have looked for it. From what I have seen it is gone. I have the old control panel pinned also. It just sends you back to the new default programs panel.
When I go to default programs Irfanview is in “Music player” and not Photo Viewer. I use XnViewMP for tagging and it is not even showing up over there.
As the OP wrote, when you click on “Set your default programs” or “Associate a file type or protocol with a program” in Control Panel, it leads you to the new Windows 10 “settings app” UI instead where you can’t do much to shorten the files association procedure now on v.1709
I thought surly there is a better way than this because like another site owner said, this is to him a step backwards. I agree in my opinion. So I went to the Windows TenForums. I looked at option seven. They also illustrate the new way of all this which I’m sure Cloudeight will be bringing up even more as version 1709 rolls out. Anyway here is what you paste into “Run”. control /name Microsoft.DefaultPrograms /page pageDefaultProgram .From control through the second Program you paste. It will bring up the old way we used to do it. I copied that link and put it on a posting note on the desk top. If you are having trouble setting something sometime I would try the old way above. That link works. You still need to learn the new way of doing it because they could stop us getting to that link in time.
I’m glad to get the security out of this version 1709 update and I’m sure that other people liked some things “maybe all” out of this update, but for me I’m glad it was free. Mine updated just fine.
Only problem I had with the update on my laptop is that it says that my smart audio from Conextant is not working properly. On my desktop my Epson V500 scanner software wasn’t there after the update. Other than that I haven’t noticed any other problems.
I was quite ill for three weeks and consequently, I didn’t go near my lap top or desk top so I don’t think I received the update and that is fine with me, I like the old adage, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. It seems to be working ok.
did not get Fall creators update yet
Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is rolling out now, but it will take several months before everyone gets it via Windows Update. If you want it now you can manually install it by following the instructions on this page.
I just got the fall update and have discovered that it did away with my NVidea GFrce control panel and I am now stuck with a generic video driver. I can no longer play some of the games I have. Am now in the process of fixing the mess the update made so am not happy with this update at the moment!
Sondra – I’ve sent you an email to help you with this. You can also see the info on this page. You can read our article about that here.
Thank you for your quick response to my comment. I almost rolled it back to the previous version. However, I was determined to stay current with the updates and was able to go to the Nvidia website and reinstall the video/audio drivers and restore my Nvidia control panel. I also had to reset some of the default programs that I use. I just don’t understand why they removed my drivers and changed my default programs with this update.
Now that I have everything fixed and working the way I want it, I have found that I actually like the fall creators update. It seems to move a bit “quicker” and is more responsive than the past versions of Windows 10.
Thank you and God bless you two for watching over us as we deal with the constant changes that take place with each new version and update. And thank you for your patience with us and our computer frustrations. 🙂
I had to request a windows update on the computer & it took 2 tries, then went smoothly. So far I haven’t noticed any difference…did it really update?
