Mail on Windows 10 is a problem because every time Windows 10 has a
major update, Windows Mail has to be reset. Plus, the Mail App
included with Windows 10 is very basic and few people find it useful
Mozilla Thunderbird is a great alternative for those of you who
have been using Windows Live Mail or Windows Mail on Windows 10 and

different as far as setting it up and configuring it.
So we're

"..Is your computer running slow? Don’t buy a new PC or call a computer repair company. This “3-click fix” is saving people thousands of dollars in computer costs. Your computer is designed to fail. Some people are upset when they learn this. But the reality is that PC makers and software companies need a reason to keep people buying upgrades every year. They’re in the business of making money..."It's no secret that businesses are in business to make money, but they're not going to be in business very long if they make inferior quality products that break down quickly. There is plenty of competition to keep manufacturers from doing this.
"Reinstalling Windows 10 after upgradeThe important point here is "No product keys are required". And this is also a good time to remind everyone that creating a Windows 10 installation DVD or USB flash drive is something everyone should do. You can use the installation media to boot your PC if you're having trouble booting into Windows. You can use the Windows 10 installation media to boot your computer and access troubleshooting options, system restore, system reset, and more. And of course, if necessary, you could reinstall Windows 10 --- no product keys required.
We understand that you may have some questions regarding what to do if you have to reinstall Windows 10 at some point after you take advantage of the free upgrade. Here are some basic questions and answers regarding the free upgrade offer:
Q: After doing a free upgrade to Windows 10, how do I clean install Windows 10 subsequently?
A: Once your device upgrades to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer and activates online automatically, you will be able to clean install (i.e. boot from media and install Windows 10) the same edition of Windows 10 that you upgraded to on the same device during and after the free upgrade offer. You will not be required to purchase Windows 10 or go back to your prior down-level version of Windows...
To enable clean installation of Windows 10 on devices that upgraded and activated online using the free upgrade offer:
You will be able to download and create installation media on a USB drive or DVD for the appropriate Windows 10 Edition
You will be able to skip entering the product key during Windows 10 Setup. Windows 10 will activate online automatically on such devices. The skip option is only available when booting from media and launching setup
The automatic online activation will occur seamlessly after clean installing Windows 10 if the device had previously upgraded and activated online the same Edition of Windows 10. No product keys are required."
Save Any Web Page As a PDF File
Windows 7,
Windows 8x and Windows 10
PDF files are great because they save the integrity of the document you’re copying (or printing). We did this tutorial using Chrome, but if you’re using Windows 10 you can do it with any browser as we’ll explain at the end of this post. If you’re using Chrome you can do this on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
We chose one of our articles for this tip. You know what they say — if you don’t toot your own horn nobody’s going to toot it for you.
On the page we want to save as PDF, we right-click and choose “Print” (see below):
Under Destination, click “Change”:
Under “Select a destination” choose “Save as PDF” (don’t forget to switch this back to your printer next time you want to print something or else you’ll end up with another PDF).
Now that you have “Save as PDF” selected as the destination, click the “Save” button. File Explorer (Windows Explorer) will open and you can browse to wherever you want to save the PDF file.
We chose the root of Drive G and saved it as is, with the title of the article as its title. But you can save Web pages with any name you want and save them to any folder or drive you want.
.
When we open the PDF file we just saved, we find it to be just like the Web page.
Including the images:
And that’s all there is to it. You can save any Web page as a PDF file.
If you’re not using Chrome but you are using Windows 10:
If you don’t have Windows 10, and you’re not using Chrome, and you do have a PDF program like “Foxit Reader” (free version is fine), you’ll have the option to save the file as PDF using it (providing your 3rd-party PDF tool supports it).
Why would you want to do this? If you like saving recipes, household tips, computer tips and tricks, how-to articles, etc. , PDF files are great because they preserve the page contents. (Note: If the page has a background image, the image won’t be preserved in your PDF file. But usually that’s no big deal.
How to Sign Out of Windows 10
Windows 10
We’ve had several people ask how to sign out of Windows 10. It’s very easy to do, but if you don’t know where to look it can be frustrating.
Before we get to the gist of signing out of Windows 10, we’ll tell you why signing out can actually save you time. Instead of shutting down at the end of the day, you can sign out of your account. It will make for much quicker start to your day when all you have to do it log in instead of starting up your computer. Also, some software installations tell you to "sign out" or "restart" after installation. If a program installation gives you that choice, you'll save time by signing out rather than restarting your PC.
So now on with the show.
Most of the time, to restart Windows, you’ll click the Start button and click “Restart” (or “Update and Restart” , if you have Windows updates pending). But, as you can see, clicking “Start” “Power options” does not give you the option to sign out. See?
The default options are “Sleep”, “Shut down” (or “Update & shut down” if you have updates pending) or “Update” (or “Update and restart if you have updates pending). There is no “Sign out” on that menu.
Here are 2 ways to get to the “Sign out” option:
You’ll see the options above. Click on “Sign out”.
2. Or, you can right-click on the start button, click on “Shutdown or sign out”:
And then click “Sign out”.
And that's all there is to signing out of Windows 10.

Help Dealing With Ransomware
All Windows Users
First of all we're going to tell you that if
you're careful what you click, use good security software like Emsisoft and you
take your common sense with you when you're on the computer, you'll never have
to worry about ransomware.
Ransomware, unlike what some fear mongers
would have you believe is something you're not very likely to encounter. But is a
very nasty thing if you are stricken with it.
Ransomware is called
ransomware because it locks (encrypts) files on your computer using a unique
encryption key. Once your files are locked you cannot access them unless you have
the encryption key. Most ransomware locks personal files like pictures,
documents, music, etc. In other words files that cannot be replaced easily. The
criminals behind the ransomware want you to pay them to give you the key to
decrypt your files. The ransom may be as high as several hundred dollars. And
these criminals are not dumb - in order to remain anonymous they will have you
pay them using bitcoin or some other non-traceable cyber-currency.
The
best way to deal with ransomware is to not get it in the first place. But we're
all human and sometimes we make mistakes.
So this guide if for you to
keep, just in case. But again, we're not trying to scare you, we're trying only
to prepare you.
Find out what kind of ransomware you have. knowledge is
power. If you know what kind of ransomware you have, you might be able to find
the right decrypter or tool to deal with it. Thanks to a kind-hearted coder, you
can use this free service to determine what kind of ransomware is infecting your
PC. As of this writing, this service can identify over 180 types of Ransomware.
The service is called I.D. Ransomware and it's located here:
https://id-ransomware.malwarehunterteam.com/index.php
Once you know
what kind of ransomware you have, you'll be glad to know that Emsisoft has
plenty of help for victims of over 20 different kinds of ransomware.
You
can get them all (and more as they are added, free from Emsisoft's web site.
https://decrypter.emsisoft.com/
If your screen is locked by ransomware, you may be able to access your
PC by using one of these free Ransomware Screen Unlocker Tools
from
TrendMicro. Be sure you read the instructions on the page. There are 2 different
tools. The first one is you're not able to access your PC in normal Windows, but
you can access it in Safe Mode. The second tool is provided for those who cannot
access their PC at all. You will need to have an uninfected computer or tablet
and a USB flash drive handy to download the second tool. Be sure to read and/or
print all instructions provided. The tools and instructions are available here:
https://esupport.trendmicro.com/en-us/home/pages/technical-support/1105975.aspx
Finally, don't panic. There's no reason to. Ransomware is nasty stuff -
but it's relatively rare. If you use good ol' common sense, reasonable caution
and you use a good software security solution like Emsisoft, you'll never have
to worry about ransomware.
We are publishing this ransomware tip so you
can save it, just in case. Remember it is far better to have it and not need it
than to need it and not have it.
Now you have it. We hope you never need
it.
How to Temporarily Pause Windows Updates
in Windows 10
Windows 10
Windows 10 does not give you an easy way to pause Windows 10 update downloads
But there is an easy way to do it from the command line. If you want to pause
your Windows 10 Update downloads, follow the instructions below:
Right-click the Start Menu and select Command Prompt (Admin) and enter the
following commands. Press Enter after each one.
NET STOP WUAUSERV
NET STOP BITS
NET STOP DOSVC
Each command make take a few seconds
to complete. When you're done, close the Command Prompt window. This will pause
any Windows Updates until your restart your computer or your manually turn them
back on.
If you want to resume downloads without restarting your computer, follow
these steps:
Right-click the Start Menu and select Command Prompt (Admin)
and enter the following commands. Press Enter after each one.
NET START
WUAUSERV
NET START BITS
NET START DOSVC
Press Enter after
each command. Each command make take a few seconds to complete, so be patient.
You can also enable the "Metered Connections" feature in Windows 10 home to
discourage Windows from downloading large updates to your computer. However, once
you turn on that feature, it will remain on until you turn it off. Many updates
include security updates and patches which we highly recommend you allow to
download and install.
Five
Ctrl Key Shortcuts Every Computer User Should Know
All Windows Users
After working with thousands of people with our Cloudeight Direct Computer Care service, one thing we've noticed is that not many of you use fundamental, time-saving shortcuts. So today, we're going to show you five shortcuts you really need to know.
OK ready? Let's say you're reading a page on the Web and you're looking for a particular word. Do you:
a.) Scan the page manually for the word?
b.) Use the browser's search feature in the browser toolbar?
c.) Press Cntrl+F to open the page search dialog?
d.) None of the above.
No, EB, the answer is C. If you're looking for a word on a page in your web browser, word processer, text editor, PDF viewer, and many others, just press Ctrl+F to open the "Find" dialog. Just remember F stands for Find.
If you're on a page you want to print, do you search for "print" on the toolbar, or look for a printer icons, or just press Ctrl+P? Right! You press Cntrl+P to print the page.
Let's say you're using your browser and you want to open a new window? Do you just click the browser's shortcut to open a new browser window? Nah, just press Ctrl+N. Same thing if you're using an email program and you want to open a new window to compose an email.
If you're working on a document and you want to save it, you can press CTRL+S instead of clicking 'File' 'Save'. If you want "File" "Save as" - Ctrl+S/ works in many applications.
If you want to view your browser's history, use Ctrl+H. And if you want to view a list of downloads, with your browser open press Ctrl+J.
Let's review:
Ctrl+F = Find something on a page - in a browser, text editor, PDF editor, ebook, etc. To remember this easily, think F = FIND.
Ctrl+P = Print the document you have open. Whether it's a web page, a Word doc, PDF file, text file, etc. Think P = PRINT.
Ctrl+N = Opens new window in the program that's running. Think N = NEW.
Ctrl+S = Saves the document you're working on. Think S = SAVE.
Ctrl+H = Shows your browser's history. Think H = History
Ctrl+J = Shows a list of downloads in your browser. Think J= ? I give up! J=Downloads!
What? You're right EB, that's six not five I'm sorry. I will learn to count sometime. Consider it a bonus to our friends who read this. And to mention:
Ctrl+A = Select All
Ctrl+C = Copy
Ctrl+V = Paste
And finally, my favorite of all...
Ctrl+EB = EB disappears.
From Bonnie to Walmart
Getting old isn’t much fun, no
matter what you hear from those who claim they’re happier being old than they
were when they were young. That’s just pure nonsense – or they had a very awful
childhood. But anyway, growing old has this way of creeping up on you so that
sometimes you forget how old you are. But for me there’s a simple test, I just
walk down the street and see how many people under 30 even notice I’m walking by
them. None. That’s how many notice me.
It’s kind of like being the
invisible man.
When I was young I spent a lot of time chasing girls and
carousing around – which, sadly, turned out to be a huge waste of time. But back
then I didn’t realize how little time I had to waste. When I was 20 I figured I
was good for another 50 years at least – 50 years seemed like such a long, long
time. An eternity to a 20-year-old. Plenty of time to waste and still have
plenty of time left do meaningful stuff!
Well those 50 years have almost
come and gone and it seems like yesterday I was licking the same ice cream cone
at the same time as Bonnie. Bonnie was a girl that my buddies hooked me up with
when I was 16 and deathly afraid of girls...

Whether Or Not You Like the Weather, You'll Like This Weather Site
In one of my rare moods, I am going to be laconic. And this Site of the Week pick will be mostly done with pictures. Don't get into habit of expecting this sort of thing, but this weather site is so good, it doesn't need a whole lot of bloviation.
I will says this. This was once an app for Apple and Android devices only. To heck with all you Windows users they use to think. But then one day, one of the developers dropped his iPhone in the toilet and he walked around weather-less for an entire day. When he went to work the next day, sans iPhone, he came up with the bright idea of making their app available to over one billion Windows users. And the rest, as they say, is history.
OK here's the pictures we promised you, along with very few words.
(All programs featured below work on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10)
Beautiful, brightly-colored weather maps for your area. That's our area up
there.
I will wait 36 minutes before going on outside. I'm no fool.
Look! A whole week's worth of (mostly) lousy weather, all in a glance.
Rain, rain go away, fall on me some other day!
More weather details than most amateur meteorologists will ever need.
What was the weather like on the day you were married? How about on the day you were born? What about the blizzard of '77. Yep. It's all there in the Time Machine. Indeed, you can travel back in forth in time just like H.G. Wells imagined 122 years ago. Only now you can do it from your easy chair - no odd-looking time machine needed.
So whether or not you're ready or not, this really great weather site called DarkSky is ready and waiting for you to discover. So come on, you know you want to visit our Site of the Week, DarkSky. It's waiting for you right here.
You've successfully weathered the storm of my words!
What is a wildcard?
When EB and I used to play poker
(HEY! Not THAT kind of poker) she always wanted to make a bunch of cards
wild. I used to want just jokers to be wild. EB was so wild back in
those days, she should have married Tarzan. She'd want 5's, 7's, 9's,
queens and jokers wild. I'd be so confused with all the wild cards, I
gave up and she always won by forfeit. That's just how she is.
Nooooo! That's not the kind of wildcard we're talking about. What's that
EB? Don't end a sentence with a preposition? OK. That's not the kind of
wildcard we're talking about, EB. Is that better?
Now...back in
the days when EB was young and thin - and TC was dashing and macho - we
used to use what were known as "Wildcards". For instance, if we were
looking for a PDF file and we didn't know its name, we could use a
wildcard to search for all PDF files on our computers.
The
search would look like:
*.pdf
The asterisk is the
wildcard. If we were looking for a text file but not sure of its name...
*.txt
Or a Word document:
*.doc or *.docx
And,
though EB is no longer young and thin, wildcards still work on Windows
10 (and Windows 7 and Windows 8 and 8.1 too).
And it seems that
Google also lets you use wildcards too, although we're not sure how
useful that is.
To search Google using wildcards, you have to
enclose the entire search phrase and the wildcard "*" in quotes:
For instance "Find the best * "
Returns the following (and
hundreds more):
Find the best colleges & universities in the
United States. Compare schools by rankings, tuition, acceptance rate,
reviews, graduation rates and more.
Where to Find the Best
Doughnuts in Philadelphia
How to Find the Best Spotify Playlists
- Field Guide
Find the Best Available Public Wifi Using This App
Incredible Flight Deals: Find the Best Airfare Deals | Expedia
Best Restaurants Near Me - TripAdvisor
Wildcards can help you
find things when you're not sure of the name of the file but you know
it's type (extension).
EB, what are you thinking of? Oh, sorry!
What are you thinking of, goofy?
